Stoney LaRue is a singer, songwriter and part of the Red Dirt music movement. Red Dirt Music began as a term for the songwriting style centered around Stillwater, OK for the past 25 years. Where it began is somewhat foggy but what is clear is that it is sweeping the nation and those responsible call Stillwater home. Today, several acts have established themselves and proudly wave the Red Dirt banner. Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland & the Stragglers and The Red Dirt Rangers have all become national touring acts. In August of 2002 Stoney made the move to Texas in hopes of opening the hearts of others to his style of music. Greeted with a warm welcome, Stoney maintains a rigorous touring schedule and an ever-growing fan base. In September 2002, Stoney LaRue and the Organic Boogie Band, released their debut CD Downtown. This album was a top 10 selling album on Lone Star Music.com for two years straight. With so much accomplished in so little time Stoney LaRue is bringing the best of Red Dirt songwriting to the people. In December of 2003, Stoney went back to being a solo acoustic act without missing a beat. Stoney, known for his ability to entertain a crowd and a voice that will leave you speechless, keeps his fans on their toes making sure no two shows are the same. After his performance at Musicfest in Steamboat Springs, Colorado in 2005, it didn't take long for people to start believing in Stoney LaRue. Everyone left knowing exactly who he was and what he was about. Stoney has a true passion for the music and it shows in each performance. Originally from Taft, TX, LaRue was raised with musical roots, singing his first songs as a toddler and recorded his first works at only 12 years old. While spending his teen years in Stillwater, OK, he was absorbed by the early Red Dirt movement and spent much time co-writing with fellow Okie songwriters, Mike McClure, Jason Boland, Cody Canada, and Bob Childers. Though Stoney has since then made a move to South Texas, he still calls Oklahoma home. Stoney LaRue-the Red Dirt Album is set to be released on August 23rd, 2005. This will be Stoney's first solo album. It has been nearly three years since his last album was released, which makes it one of the most anticipated albums of the year. The eleven track cd uses a variety of respected songwriters and musicians to create what we believe to be the perfect Red Dirt album. Many would describe it as not only a great album, but an experience. Eight of the 11 tracks are written or co-written by LaRue, with two tracks that he re-recorded from his Downtown album.
